Decks

Privacy Policy for Decks

Last updated: September 29, 2026

Decks lays out your photos and clips as pages for Instagram and Threads. We do not collect, sell, or share your personal data. Decks has no developer-operated server, advertising, analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting service. The only network service it talks to is Apple's iCloud, and only for your own private data.

Photos and clips

You choose photos and clips with the system picker, so Decks only ever sees the items you hand it. It reads their pixels and their embedded metadata, such as camera, lens, exposure, and capture date, to build the page and the optional camera details card. Copies of the chosen items are kept in the app's own storage for as long as the project exists. Your originals are never changed. When you export, Decks asks for permission to add the finished pages to your photo library and nothing else.

What Decks stores, and where

Projects, pages, captions, templates, saved gear, and settings live on your device. Projects are archived automatically after seven days unless you pin them, and archived projects can be removed from the library. Decks has no server, so we cannot see your photos, projects, or app activity.

iCloud sync

When you are signed in to iCloud, Decks keeps your projects and templates in your private iCloud database so they stay consistent across your devices. Decks shares an iCloud container with Ingest, Brian Renshaw's Mac app, so templates and pages can move between the two. This data is sent directly between the app and Apple's CloudKit service. It is associated with your Apple ID and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy; it is not sent to Decks or a Decks-operated server. Turning off iCloud for Decks in Settings stops syncing.

Shortcuts and the share sheet

Decks offers App Shortcuts and a share-sheet extension so you can send photos from Apple Photos to a template. These run on your device. The items you share are handled exactly like items chosen in the app.

Captions and text

Captions, text layers, and logos you add are stored with the project. Copying a caption puts it on your clipboard and nowhere else. Decks does not post to Instagram or Threads on your behalf; you export pages and post them yourself.

Third-party services

Decks does not include advertising, analytics, tracking, crash-reporting, or social-network SDKs. Sample photographs shown in the template studio are public-domain works from the Library of Congress and the National Archives.

Data retention and deletion

You control the information stored by Decks. Delete individual projects or templates, or delete the app to remove everything stored on the device. If iCloud sync is on, deleting a project or template also removes it from your private iCloud database.

Children

Decks does not knowingly collect personal information from children or anyone else.

Changes to this policy

If Decks's data practices change, this page and its “Last updated” date will be revised before the change is released when appropriate.
